    Queer As Folk Question
Okay, does anyone know who is older out of Michael and Brian in the show Queer as Folk USA? I can only find info on the actor's ages which isn't really what I want. Thanks x

    Transportation
So, I have a very very wealthy man. One with whom money is no object. He is from the old school, distinguished, but NOT boring… He has several cars, and I am sure they include some kind of limosene and something like a BMW… But what would be his just “getting-around-car?” One that he might take a friend or two for a drive? I know nothing about cars. This would still have to speak of MONEY… Not a fast little sports car, though…

Searching for resources on running an estate
Writing in an RPG, my character is an English lord who unexpected inherited the title (father and older brother were killed). I'm looking for information on what he would do in the running of a large estate and title, but I can only seem to find historical info out there.

So can anyone help with something perhaps more modern?

    An update! (ooh! ahhh!)
    Long time, no update.

I'm going to try to make regular updates here, hopefully at least once a week.

Also, if anyone would like to comment & share their favorite resource, that
would be awesome. I'm thinking of things like lexicons or dictionaries or guides - (such as the HP Lexicon -
anything that really helps you when you sit down to write or make with the meta
or create fan art or develop an RPG character's backstory.

If there's interest, it may also be worthwhile to post favorite places to find images.

I'll endeavour to make a post from time to time with links & sources grouped by category and put it in memories.

This might also be a good time to point out that any member of the community can
    post. So, please do!

    And now, some links.

First, some random reference links. Not fandom specific, but either generally good references or so quirky I could not pass them up: )
    More soon!

    Populations
...I have spent the last damned hour googling trying to find a recent census report (or something) on the population of Kansas City. I know it is at least a million people and I thought in was several... One report I found said about ten thousand! ROTFLMAO....

Please tell me that someone can help me here...

    Restaurant Questions
Good morning! Hope you all can help...

I have noticed in a lot of smaller (and even larger) towns, there are restaurant chains that have start "connecting" to each other. I think Long John Silvers and A&W might be one, and Taco Bell and something else, I am not sure... Kentucky Fried Chicken and something...

...can anyone tell me some of these connections? Which places are connected together that is and not the corporate connections (although that might be interesting also). THANKS!!!

    History links

I began collecting these links some months ago for Historical Links for Fanfic Writers. I realized that it wasn’t very nice of me to dump a slew of unorganized links on the site maintainer, and began (trying to) put this list into some order. I am obviously biased towards Canadian history, and I gave up on any real attempts at organization after having gotten through Canada. Also, I can’t promise that all these sites are *useful*--I usually have more fun finding sites than I do inspecting their content.

Historical Info from the National Park Service
Just thought I'd share this link from the National Park Service

Its some online reports from the Historic Resource Studies section of the NPS's Online Books page. Has some great historical and geographical information about various sections of the United States NPS sites.

    Buffy the Vampire Slayer Question
What "kind" of house does Buffy have?

    (well, before Sunnydale collapsed)

There are all kinds of houses. Colonials, English Tudors, etc, etc...

What kind of house was that that we saw each week on BtVS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Oh, with the random research questions...
I've done some basic, desultory net searching on these questions, but I'm not getting the answers I need, so I thought I'd toss some of my questions out here. In no particular order:

    1) Are there many/any skyscrapers in Miami? If so, how tall? Stories-wise, not feet-wise. Guesstimations are faboo.

    2) Can you *really* knock someone out by hitting them (preferably only once) somewhere in the head region with the butt of a gun? If so, where should you hit them?

    3) Video games. Specifically, the new square Gameboys, or some other form of handheld gaming system. Can they be hooked up so you can play player-to-player? What games feature the player-to-player option? If anyone is familiar with these games, could I pick your brain in more detail, with some story specifics?

Any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. And, yeah, the fic is just as cracked out as these questions would imply.

I just finished this... tell me what you think! This is my result...

    Wolf
    YOU ARE A WOLF!

You are fiercely loyal to those you love... and
lethal to those you don't. If someone is lucky
enough to be counted among your family or
friends, they will be gifted with your eternal
loyalty, courage, and devotion. You are a
strong, passionate person who will always be
there for those who need them. However, anyone
who gets on your bad side had better watch out!
When you feel threatened or hurt you will lash
out however you can to hurt anyone in your way.
You will stop at nothing to defend yourself or
your friends, and your rage can be frightening.
Be careful not to let that feral anger overtake
you too often, else you might end up hurting
    someone you love.

Now that you know what your inner animal spirit is,
let me show you something else....

    Take my hand....

My first quiz! I'm both excited and nervous. I hope it's good and everyone likes it. There's a cool link in the results for those of you who like such things. I hope you all like it! Thanks to everyone who has welcomed me and added me to their friends list. Enjoy!

    Vampire

    YOU ARE A VAMPIRE!

You are the charismatic leader of the night.
Seductive and beautiful, you lure humans to
their deaths for their precious blood. Since
you are dead already and as tough as they come,
you are secure, condifent, and nearly
    invincible.

    Welcome to the shadows!

And now that you know who you are, take my hand and
join me in a trip to the unknown....

    Come
    with me and live forever....

    *waves sheepishly*

Hi everyone. My name is Tatiyana, and I'm brand new to LJ and everything on here. I just joined a whole bunch of communities that sounded like places I mind find people like me or interesting things to do. I am from Connecticut and am very into all things dark and mystical. The more bizarre and unusual, the better it is for me. I've just discovered the joy of making quizes so from time to time I may post a quiz I've made if that's okay with everyone. I have one nearly done now, so I'll try and get it up tomorrow night.

Well, I hope that's enough of an intro for you! I'm kind of nervous, so go easy on me, okay? Nice to meet you all, and I'll talk to you again soon!

    An introduction and a question...
Hi, everyone...just joined...avid fic writer with my brain currently being eaten by a conundrum, and wondering if anyone can help.

In the merciless grip of Harry Potter plotbunnies and geekdom, I decided I want to give all my original characters wands that fit their personalities. I want the type of wood the wands are made of and what kind of core they have to reflect the personality of the character that owns it. Because, apparantly, as a college freshman with two papers to write and several books to read, this is what I choose to devote my time to. XD

So, I figured that with all the HP character quizzes and sorting hat quizzes and so on out there, there must be some kind of meme or quiz that lets you select a wand. But I can't find any. So, barring that, I tried looking for information about any kind of symbolic importance or mythical properties attributed different types of wood, like willow and oak. Can't find anything like that, either.

So, can anyone help me out with finding either one or both of those?

I was browsing around, trying to find out how to spell a certain slang term and I came across some interesting dictionaries. These are the ones that I hope are most useful or at least fun:

    The Prisoner's Dictionary

Online Dictionary of Street Drug Slang is specific to Indiana but most of the terms are in wide use. Some of the terms may be outdated but still useful.

Twists, Slugs and Roscoes: A Glossary of Hardboiled Slang may be useful for period fiction.

The Online Dictionary of Playground Slang is cute so I thought I'd include it.

I'm putting major warnings on Dictionary of Obscure Sexual Terms because most of the terms are pretty offensive to women. I'm including it for anyone who may be writing a character who is a total creep.

    Enjoy!

    This and that. . .
    Encyclopedia Mythica: http://www.pantheon.org/

    Dictionary of Symbolism: http://www.umich.edu/~umfandsf/symbolismproject/symbolism.html/index.html

Bibliomania (Free Online Literature and Study Guides): http://www.bibliomania.com/0/0/frameset.html

Behind the Name; The Etymology and History of First Names: http://www.behindthename.com/

And I'm reall miffed: I used to have a link to a great site on how to write military-fiction. The page is dead, and while the links to other military sites are still there, almost none of them work. *grumblegrumble*
